First Book Speed ReadTM
A First Book Speed Read is a playful fundraising event with a tangible impact: every $2.50 generated places a brand new book into the hands of a child in need. Speed Readers are challenged to read as many words as they can out loud from a classic children's book in 15 seconds. Anyone can participate, whether as a guest reader, sponsor or donor. Funds generated through donations help First Book reach more children in need.

1. Be A Speed Reader
Sign up to read, then ask your friends and family to sponsor you. Anyone feeling playful is highly encouraged to sign up!
View a list of Speed Read locations if you would like to read at an event with other readers and an audience. If there isn't a First Book Speed Read in your area, you can read on your own, or gather friends to have your own event.
2. Sponsor A Reader
If you know someone participating in a First Book Speed Read, you can sponsor him or her by making a donation. You can also see a tally of how much each reader has raised. Search for a reader by first or last name.
** If someone sent you an email asking you to sponsor them, click on the link in the email to go directly to their page.
3. Donate
Make a tax-deductible donation to First Book in honor of all the Speed Readers nationwide, without sponsoring a particular reader.
