About Us

First Book provides new books to children in need, addressing one of the most important factors affecting literacy – access to books. An innovative leader in social enterprise, First Book has distributed more than 60 million free and low cost books to disadvantaged children and the programs that serve them.

First Book-Mahoning Valley is the local advisory board for First Book, a national nonprofit organization with a single mission: to help low-income children read and own their first new book. We are pleased to serve Mahoning and Columbiana counties. Volunteers, board members, and donations are always welcome.

Events

First Book-Mahoning Valley currently supports storytime and other activities at the Children's Museum of the Valley for First Wednesdays. This is an evening free and open to the public the 1st Wednesday of each month.

Meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of every month at Barnes & Noble, 381 Boardman Poland Rd in Youngstown, Ohio 44512. Everyone is welcome.

We are in the process of establishing a literacy program at the Big Reach Center for Hope in Greene Township. Please email us if interested in helping develop this program.
