March Survey Garners Broad Advisory Board Response. Thank you to all Board members who participated in the March AB’s-in-Action Board Structure survey. Congratulations to First Book-Huntington Area, WV, the winner of this months drawing prize of a $250 Borders gift card.
To allow time to analyze the unprecedented amount of data and to develop action items we will not be posting an April survey, but plan on including one next month. In the meantime, please review preliminary information gleaned from the survey.
Membership
- 96% of respondents stated that they have 5 or more members on their Advisory Board.
- 44% of the Boards have 10 or more members.
- 60% of respondents noted that only a subset of members consistently participates in Board activities.
Volunteer Hours
- 85% of participants stated that they typically work 10 hours or less per month on Advisory Board activity. The other 15% work 15 or more hours per month.
Leadership Transition
- Nearly 60% of participants responded that leadership positions are filled by members volunteering to take the role as opposed to a more formal process.
- Almost 40% of Boards stated that they have no set procedure for filling open positions.
- More than 80% of respondents noted that they do not have term limits for leadership positions.
