First Book and Tata
A Partnership for Literacy

Gary Temple of Jaguar Land Rover with children at Jackson Avenue Elementary

In 2009, First Book and Tata partnered to bring 40,000 books to children in need nationwide. Tata and First Book held a reading party with Jaguar Land Rover North America at Jackson Avenue Elementary School in Hackensack, New Jersey. Tata brought 1,000 books to Hackensack as part of a larger donation of 10,000 books to children in need throughout the state.

One hundred students participated in reading activities and explorations of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles. The students also enjoyed a read-aloud session with Jaguar Land Rover North America President, Gary Temple and Tata Sons Chief Representative, David Good. Edward Kliszus, Superintendent of the Hackensack Board of Education, also participated in the event.

First Book and Tata also held a reading party celebrating a 10,000 book donation from Eight O’Clock Coffee and Candlewick Press at The Brooklyn Brownstone School in Brooklyn, New York with celebrity decorator, Evette Rios. Additionally, a reading party hosted by Tata Business Support Services (TBSS) and First Book brought 1,500 new books to students at East Milton Elementary School in Milton, Florida.

Imani Lewis, a student from East Milton Elementary, wore a big smile as she hugged her new books and declared, "I like to read. I read a lot to my little cousin."

Tata’s dedication to literacy has helped to make a difference for thousands of children in need.

Please help Tata bring more books to children in need by making a donation.
