First Book-BGSU Firelands

About Us

First Book provides new books to children in need, addressing one of the most important factors affecting literacy – access to books. An innovative leader in social enterprise, First Book has distributed more than 65 million free and low-cost books to disadvantaged children and the programs that serve them.

First Book-BGSU Firelands officially began in January of 2007, as a result of a Student Government campaign to give back to the community.

Given the mission of BGSU and BGSU Firelands, Student Government Officers believe that early reading plays an integral part in developing culturally literate, technologically sophisticated, and productive citizens. Our collaboration with First Book allows early readers to explore and experience a variety of worlds through the written word, inspires young adults to learn more about the world around them and provides a steppingstone to achieve their dreams.
