First Book-Dallas

About Us

First Book provides new books to children in need, addressing one of the most important factors affecting literacy – access to books. An innovative leader in social enterprise, First Book has distributed more than 65 million free and low-cost books to disadvantaged children and the programs that serve them.

First Book-Dallas is a local Advisory Board (AB) dedicated to forwarding the First Book mission here in the Dallas Area. We seek to create a culture of reading in families where reading was not previously a priority. Our Advisory Board is comprised of ardent volunteers from all sectors of the community who have joined forces to provide new books to local youth in need. We work to achieve the following goals: 

• Raise funds to support the purchase of new books for children living in low-income families (6-12 new books are provided to every youth served)
• Cultivate local business partnerships to provide sustaining annual support for the purchase of new books
• Partner with established and effective local literacy programs, after school programs, Head Start programs and medical clinics to distribute new books to children of all ages
• Recruit additional action-oriented Advisory Board members who represent a professional and cultural cross-section of the community
• Participate in First Book national cause-based marketing events and campaigns
• Accept donations of substantial items (valued at $100 or more) to be auctioned on eBay to benefit First Book-Dallas
• Encourage all eligible Recipient Groups to register with the First Book at www.firstbook.org/register
