About UsFirst Book provides new books to children in need, addressing one of the most important factors affecting literacy – access to books. An innovative leader in social enterprise, First Book has distributed more than 60 million free and low cost books to disadvantaged children and the programs that serve them. First Book-Horry County, an affiliate of the award-winning, national First Book organization, which has a single mission: to give children from low-income households the opportunity to read and own their first new books. We are preparing to celebrate our 10th Anniversary in February 2009! In the past ten years, we have awarded nearly 40,000 books to more than 20 different organizations serving low income children throughout Horry County. We are very happy to welcome our newest corporate partner, Barnes & Noble. They will be conducting a book drive and encouraging gift card purchases for First Book-Horry during the holiday season, November 1 to January 1. Please join us at Barnes & Noble in Market Commons, 1063 Howard Parkway, Myrtle Beach, on Saturday, December 13 for The Biggest Giver.
Early College High School-First Book Club. These high school students have been learning the art of storytelling from one of our board members, Tony Kroll. They were very excited to tell stories and give new books to preschool children. They also help us celebrate First Book grants with our Recipient Groups.
