About UsFirst Book provides new books to children in need, addressing one of the most important factors affecting literacy – access to books. An innovative leader in social enterprise, First Book has distributed more than 60 million free and low cost books to disadvantaged children and the programs that serve them. 
The Local Advisory Board (LAB) of First Book-Greater Minneapolis/St. Paul started in late 2003, and is comprised of representatives from nonprofit organizations, corporations and service organizations. Our LAB conducts grant rounds for books and funds to purchase books to literacy programs and projects, most of which would not be able to continue their literacy efforts. We have seen many new literacy projects start with resources provided in a local grant round. We are proud to have served so many children and reached out to so many literacy programs and projects. We would like to see representatives from counties other than Hennepin come forward to serve on the Board. We also encourage other areas of the state to form their own First Book Local Advisory Board, and would be more than willing to help them do this.
