Like Reading Is Fundamental, First Book is a nonprofit organization that provides new books and educational resources to programs serving children in need. First Book and RIF have worked together for years in communities across the country to provide First Book resources to RIF programs nationwide. In addition to developing RIF Ready Packs, First Book distributes books to RIF and other programs in three ways:
- The First Book Marketplace is our online resource where programs serving children from low-income families can purchase books and educational resources discounted up to 90% off retail prices – at an average price of $2.50 per soft cover book. The Marketplace offers a broad range of high quality, award-winning, and bilingual titles.
- The First Book National Book Bank distributes free, brand new books to programs serving children from low-income families. While the books are always free, there is a 35 to 50 cent per book shipping cost. If there is a distribution in your area, programs can pick up the books directly.
- First Book Advisory Boards are groups of volunteers who raise funds at the local level and issue book grants to eligible programs in their community. There are currently more than 150 Advisory Boards serving communities across the country.
