Thank you for your interest in becoming part of the First Book Advisory Board network. Let’s get started! First, check to see if an Advisory Board already exists in your area. If not, we invite you to lead the way in increasing childhood literacy in your community:
Access the Online Resource CenterReview the materials that you receive and access the First Book Online Resource Center, which will guide you as you begin building your board.
Recruit VolunteersReach out to your personal and community networks. We recommend recruiting at least 3 to 5 committed volunteers when beginning Advisory Board work.
Get TogetherHold three meetings with your volunteers. Discuss recruitment strategies for additional members and the goals of your Board. Work together to complete the Starter Package.
Submit Your Starter PackageLearn about your board and the community you will serve. The Starter Package asks you to submit:
- Community research
- Your commitment form
- Roster of members
- Minutes from your first three meetings
ApprovalAfter your paperwork is submitted and reviewed, we will let you know when we have approved your board. It is time to start raising money and delivering new books to children in need!
