Celebrating Back to School with Disney Magic

As part of Disney’s mission to inspire the next generation of storytellers and innovators, Disney is supporting First Book in providing books to educators and the students they serve in low-income communities across the country as they go back to school, helping ensure a successful and joyful start to the school year. This additional support expands Disney’s longstanding relationship with First Book, helping educators empower their students to thrive, dream big and reach their full potential.

Since 2000, Disney has supported First Book to inspire children through the magic of storytelling, donating tens of millions of books to children in low-income communities.

As First Book’s largest in-kind donor of books, Disney has empowered more than 600,000 educators in the First Book Network and impacted millions of students across the country. Together with their passionate employee VoluntEARS, Disney is helping spark imaginations and inspiring a lasting love for learning and storytelling through the power of books.

Magic of Storytelling

For over a decade, the Magic of Storytelling initiative has harnessed the power of Disney to inspire the next generation of storytellers by providing books to educators serving kids in need through First Book.

In partnership with ABC Owned Television Stations across the United States, the books Disney donates are distributed by First Book to educators in schools and programs exclusively serving children in low-income families.

Educators who serve children in Title I schools or programs are encouraged to register for free. Registration takes about five minutes and once approved, educators can purchase books at reduced costs, access funding from promotional partners, and download free resources designed to help educators tackle issues in the classroom.

Bringing Extra Disney Magic

In addition to donating books, Disney collaborates with First Book to create special experiences for kids, educators, families and communities. Together we:

  • Host community book donation events
  • Engage students through activities and events featuring Disney authors
  • Provide literacy kits assembled by Disney VoluntEARS and fans
  • Help grow the First Book Network, expanding access to donated books for more educators serving children in need

Reading, libraries, and volunteering are what really make a difference in our community. A book can change a life, and libraries can be where that change happens. And volunteers, like those at Disney, can be the ones that make it all happen. It is heartwarming to see all of this come together for kids and families.

Anaheim Mayor, Ashleigh Aitken

Thank you to Disney and First Book for making it possible for me to help foster the Magic of Storytelling to as many children as possible. In some cases, the books they take home may be the only thing that they truly own.
